These links crossed my radar tonight . As the U.K. prepared to defend itself against aerial invasion during the early decades of the 20th century , it experimented with sound mirrors to identify and triangulate incoming aircraft.

Hmm, plane sonar....
Even if it worked well, I’d guess it is not so effective against supersonic aircraft.

There is a great doc. Battle of britian : the real story, 2010ish wh ere they go into how early british radar was really overrated. Once the germnans reached the coast, hills trees and buidling would make it useless. What they did have was an integrated air defence network of hundreds or thousands of observers. , One that was better in 40 than the germans till 42.
